Ryanair launch first route to Hungary
Ryanair will launch its first ever flights to Hungary in a move welcomed by tourist chiefs.
Services to Lake Balaton will depart Stansted three times weekly from February 18 with one-way fares from £4.79, excluding taxes.
Hungarian National Tourist Office UK director Balazs Szucs said it will help build on already impressive arrival figures and encourage tourists to venture outside the capital of Budapest.
“Tourism in Hungary is booming. By the end of the year almost 500,000 visitors will have arrived in Budapest from the UK alone an increase of 60% on 2004,” he said.
“Until now relatively few British tourists have ventured outside the capital but we believe that is about to change. Ryanair’s first route to Hungary also makes Lake Balaton the first destination outside the capital to be accessible from Britain by air.”
The low cost carrier has also announced the launch of four more routes. From Stansted it will begin daily flights to Vitoria in Spain on February 17, a three times weekly services to Lamezia in Italy on February 28 and a four times Parma service on March 31. It will also introduce a three times weekly service from Luton to Brest in France on February 21.
