Ryanair welcomes Cameron with video message

Ryanair has made a Youtube video to ‘welcome’ David Cameron into another term of office and calling on him to scrap APD.

The video charts the history of APD in Ireland, where it was scrapped just over a year ago.

According to the video, passenger numbers in Ireland dropped from 30.5 million to 23.5 million when APD was introduced.

When the Irish Government scrapped APD in April 2014, Ryanair introduced 21 new Irish routes, bringing in an extra 1.3 customers.

Although the Government lost €30 million in APD revenue, the extra passengers brought by Ryanair alone spent €150 million, generating €30 million in VAT.

Furthermore, tourism has grown by 8%, it said.

"It’s simple, APD doesn’t work," says the video.

Ryanair has also created a cheeky advert bidding UKIP leader Nigel Farage ‘bon voyage’.

Farage resigned after failing to win the seat of South Thanet in last week’s election, but has now withdrawn his resignation, with the support of his party, and will continue to be leader.
