South African Airways (SAA) has cancelled today’s flights between Johannesburg and Nairobi as a result of the huge blaze that closed Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
SAA’s country head for Australasia, Tim Clyde-Smith said passengers from Australia and New Zealand could face delays and re-scheduling issues as a result of the flight cancellations.
"We’re conscious that a number of passengers travelling through to East Africa will be affected and we are working with our head office in Johannesburg and with our travel trade partners to both advise on the delays and re-schedule travel when and where possible," he said.
SAA has put a recovery plan in place to minimise the impact of the inconvenience to its customers. This will be activated as soon as advice has been received that the airport has resumed its operations.
SAA advises passengers wishing to cancel or reschedule their flights to take note of the following conditions:
Rebooking on the next available flight (same cabin/booking class) is subject to space.
All date and flight change fees will be waived. This will apply to SAA tickets only and not on any other airline tickets.
The offer must be taken up and tickets re-issued through an SAA office by August 12, 2013
If moving travel to a later date, all travel must commence on/before August 21, 2013.
