SAS to slash another 1,500 jobs
SAS has announced it plans to slash another 1,000 to 1,500 jobs as part of a revised cost-cutting programme.
It is also seeking a 10-20% cut in pay and pensions for cabin crew and pilots.
In February, SAS announced that another 3,000 jobs would have to go.
The airline says it needs to cut 2bn Swedish kronor, or £166m, to meet fierce competition in a “highly challenging marketâ€.
“Accordingly, it is essential that we now completely close SAS’s cost gap with our competitors,†said SAS president and chief executive Mats Jansson.
“This is a matter of competing on equal conditions and, ultimately, about the survival of SAS.”
The airline reported a net loss of 1.05bn kronor in the second quarter of 2009.
