Sewing needles found in airline food

Tuesday, 17 July 20123 min read

An airline has launched an investigation after sewing needles were found in turkey sandwiches served in-flight.

Delta Air Lines said it found the needles in six sandwiches on four flights on Sunday.

One passenger was injured, but declined medical attention, according to a Delta spokeswoman.

The needles were found in sandwiches on flights from Amsterdam, Atlanta and Seattle.

Flight attendants stopped serving the sandwiches as soon as the needle in one sandwich was discovered.

Messages went out to other flights en route from Amsterdam, where the sandwiches had been prepared by an international catering company.

Delta said security for its meal production has been increased and it is using more pre-packaged food while the investigation, also involving the FBI, continues.
