The Silk Road, the legendary route through central Asia followed by Marco Polo, is the most popular adventure travel trip, according to the Daily Telegraph. The newspaper today reports that the trip was voted most popular of seven “extreme wonders of the world” in a poll carried out for its Adventure Travel and Sports Show, to be held at London’s Olympia this weekend. Potential travellers told the newspaper that trekking to see polar bears in Canada was second on their list, with tiger spotting in India third most popular. The other activities on the list were “chasing tornadoes in the Australian outback, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, diving with sharks in South Africa, and sand boarding in Namibia”. Perhaps more significantly, a quarter of the 2,000 people polled said adventure was one of the most important parts of their trip, whereas just one in 10 said nightlife was a must. Show organiser Martin Onslow reportedly told the newspaper: “Modern travellers are increasingly on the lookout for more exciting and adventurous holidays. Every year new adventures are discovered.” The travel show starts on Friday and runs for three days.
