Theme park operator Six Flags Entertainment has got the go-ahead to open a new water park in Mexico.
After a public bidding process, Six Flags has been granted an operator’s license by Mexico’s National Social Security Entity and will open a Hurricane Harbor-branded waterpark in the town of Oaxtepec, 40km south of Mexico City.
The expected opening date will be early 2017, Six Flags said.
"Our theme park in Mexico City is one of our fastest growing and most beloved parks, and we look forward to offering guests thrilling Six Flags memories at the new Hurricane Harbor Oaxtepec waterpark for years to come," said John Odum, president of Six Flags’ development division.
The company is planning major investment on the 67-acre property which is on the site of a former theme park.
It will build waterslides, rides and other visitor attractions along with several new food and retail locations.
The Six Flags group runs 18 parks throughout the US, Mexico and Canada
