Snow Season about to get even better

Thursday, 17 Jul, 2007 0

Icy cold weather and lower than normal temperatures throughout SE Australia indicate that the 2007 snow season is about to get even better.

Snow enthusiasts are aware of a cold mass of air building in the Bight and that Mother Nature is about to deliver yet another healthy cover of snow, with a significant cold front expected to sweep across Victoria late today and the weather forecasters are suggesting snow could fall as low as 700 metres.

Its been a memorable school holidays and as the school-aged skiers and boarders go back to their respective schools there’s some ski-in ski-out accommodation becoming available at the alpine resort’s lodges and apartments.

The good snow season is largely due to a series of east coast lows in June, followed by cold fronts in July that sent temperatures plunging. If the approaching cold front lives up to its potential it will be the perfect time to enjoy a visit to Victoria’s largest (and arguably the prettiest) snow-covered alpine resort.

By Wednesday there could be a substantial increase to the snow depth at Falls Creek adding to the excellent base currently blanketing the resort’s very popular ski runs and the lucky skiers and boarders who sign up for this week’s ‘First Tracks’ program, departing at 7.30am on Thursday morning from the Village Bowl, could be the first to enjoy the snow forecast to low levels.

Overnight it was minus 6.7C and the entire compliments of 14 ski lifts provided easy access to an array of well-groomed slopes with the departure of the school-aged guests (and their parents) having an upside with more accommodation available and of course Falls Creek is renowned for virtually no lift queues being the largest alpine resort in Victoria.

A combination of uncrowded slopes, a healthy amount of snow, all lifts running and well-priced accommodation packages is enticing snow buffs to their favourite resort. Falls Creek Reservation Centre’s selection of Ski-in Ski-out cool winter breaks includes: –

Three Nights Accommodation at Summit Ridge Alpine Lodge, three breakfasts, three x 2 Course Dinners (in an award-winning restaurant), Two Day Ski Lift Pass and Two Day Ski Hire. Cost $935 per adult.

Luxurious Astra Lodge, three nights accommodation (in a Meridian Room), breakfast daily and a Three Day Ski Lift Pass. Adult $964. Only available between 22-25 July.
