Southwest Airlines will soon start interisland services to Hilo.
The announcement was made as it launched the Kona route at the weekend.
No start date has been disclosed yet for Honolulu-Hilo flights but it is expected to launch before the end of the year.
Hawaii Island mayor Harry Kim said it will likely begin ‘before the holidays.’
Hilo is the gateway to the Big Island’s Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
It will become Southwest’s fifth Hawaiian destination.
After a delayed launch, Southwest began serving Hawaii in March from Oakland and San Jose.
