Space wanderlust
Forget Kim Kardashian, K-Pop singer Psy has officially #brokentheinternet! Well, Youtube to be more precise. His hit video, ‘Gangam Style’ has amassed over 2.15 billion views since its debut in 2012, which exceeded YouTube’s set view limit. The site has had to upgrade its view counter which previously worked on a 32-bit integer, and now allows up to a maximum of 9.22 quintillion views.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words but what if it could also be worth thousands of pounds? Well with Instagram, it can. The app has 200 million users worldwide and shares 60 million photos a day, that’s a whole lot of sharing! It’s no surprise that brands are catching on to how lucrative the power of sharing across a number of sectors and demand for beautiful photos can be. New Yorker, Liz Eswein has 1.2 million followers and earns £1 per like on all sponsored posts after linking with social media agency, Laundry Service. Instagrammers like the bloggers and YouTubers that came before them, are living the life and translating their love of photography into profitable careers… we have heard of worse jobs.
Ever wanted to travel the world, experiencing the food and culture of other countries? For many of us this is something of a pipe dream, but for Londoners, however, your dreams may be becoming a reality. Worldinlondon, a new app in its developing stages, will give Londoners and visitors to the capital, the opportunity to explore the rest of the world within the city. Sounds confusing? Well it’s not. The app will provide users with a list of the top ten things to do in the city different nationalities from around the world. It will also feature upcoming events and journey planning facilities. Users will gain a stamp for each activity they complete or place they visit, similar to a passport. Worldinlondon is an exciting new way to become a connoisseur of the world, without having to leave Zone 6.
And finally a video that is literally out of this world. Swedish digital animator Erik Wernquist, has created a truly wanderlust-worthy video, ‘Wanderers‘, imagining what travel will look like once we break away from earth and begin to settle on other planets. The imagery in the video is digital recreations that Wernquist built from NASA photos and maps of planets in the solar system. Even though space travel isn’t a viable option for everyone just yet, this video is sure to get you planning your next adventure.
