Spain plans to allow holidaymakers from June

Spain will be ready to welcome holidaymakers again from June, the country’s tourism minister said

The timeline is dependent on a vaccine passport system being operational by then, said Fernando Valdes Verelst.

"June will be the start of the recovery of tourism in Spain. By then, we will have a digital vaccination certificate in place and we will be able to reopen our borders," he said at the WTTC Global Summit.

The country begins a trial of digital green passes next month for retuning Spanish nationals.

Verelst also said he hopes Spain will be on the UK’s ‘green list’ which means British holidaymakers won’t need to quarantine on their return.

"We are having close conversations with UK authorities and we are exchanging information on Spain’s digital system and the trial happening at our airports in May," he added.

About 10% of Spanish citizens have received both doses of the Covid vaccine. It expects to have 70% fully inoculated by the end of summer.
