Spiraling fuel costs cutting into business travel

Saturday, 03 May, 2006 0

The impact of record fuel prices has gone beyond airlines and car travelers to spread to business, according to a survey by the National Business Travel Association (NBTA).

Some businesses have started to adjust their 2007 travel budgets, said the survey of 1,700 corporate travel managers.

If airfares remain at the same level or increase, 43% of the travel managers in the survey said they would have to adjust their travel budgets. One-third of the companies said they were requiring less air travel.

“Every company approaches reaching these savings differently to reach their business goals as rates continue to go up,” said Caleb Tiller, NBTA spokesman.

Even non-profits are struggling with the higher costs.
