Stockholm riots lead to Foreign Office change of advice

Friday, 24 May 20133 min read

The UK Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Sweden following a spate of riots in Stockholm.

It is warning British travellers to avoid large gatherings, take care and monitor local news reports, after rioting in Stockholm suburbs every night this week.

According to the BBC, the unrest has led to the burning of cars and a restaurant and attacks on a school, a bank, a library and a station.

Protestors have thrown stones at police and directed laser pointers at emergency services.

It is believed the unrest is in reaction to an incident 10 days ago when police shot dead an elderly man wielding a knife.
