Stollznow Research report
Recent interviewing with travel agents by Stollznow Research has found that travel agents feel that terrorism is not affecting overseas travel.
This doesn’t mean that individual destinations are not affected. Australian travellers are actively avoiding countries where there is a perception of anti-Australian sentiment. Destinations close to home such as Bali and Malaysia are most affected by this.
Where there are losers there are always winners. Destinations that have gained are Fiji, Vanuatu and other south Pacific destinations as well as New Zealand. Agents also report that long-haul destinations such as Europe and the USA are not affected by the recent acts of terrorism in the UK.
Director of Qualitative Research Giselle Webb says “The general sentiment of agents is positive and buoyant. Agents are having difficulty keeping up with demand and simply getting clients on their preferred flight can be challenging. Some clients are booking up to 12 months in advance to make sure they get their ideal holiday.”
“Agents feel the need for Australian’s to travel overseas is increasing and in many cases they can’t find enough staff to service the needs of their clients” says Web.
The recent StollzNow Travel Monitor supports the opinion of travel agents. Of all people who had considered travelling overseas in the next year terrorism was not an issue for 58%, terrorism was a concern for 32% and 10% decided not to travel overseas.
