Strikes underway in Portugal

Thursday, 24 November 20113 min read

A 24-hour strike in Portugal means cancelled flights and major disruptions to other transportation today.

The general strike has been called in protest against austerity measures being imposed by the country’s government.

British Airways, Ryanair, easyJet and TAP Air Portugal flights have been affected and the airlines are advising passengers to check the status of their flights.

Air traffic controllers walked out last night and are expected to be joined by other public sector workers.

Unlike in France and Spain, strikes in Portugal are very rare and this is believed to be one of the biggest in the country’s history.
