Sydney Centre to Boost Territory Tourism
Northern Territory Chief Minister and Tourism Minister, Clare Martin, said the Northern Territory will increase its profile as a travel destination with the opening of a new Territory Travel Centre in Sydney yesterday.
The new facility will open near Wynyard station in the heart in the Sydney CBD.
“There is a growing trend for international travellers not to commit to making all their travel decisions and bookings until they arrive in Australia,” Ms Martin said.
“With Sydney the biggest inbound gateway, there is an opportunity for the Territory to increase its profile by providing a shopfront where travellers can get information and advice on the full range of Territory experiences.
“Nearly 45% of all international travellers to the Territory enter Australia via Sydney.”
The shopfront will be on a 12-month trial basis and will offer a low-cost option as the Territory will be sharing the space with Tourism Tasmania, which has been operating successfully from the site for over three years.
“Both the Northern Territory and Tasmania have World Heritage-listed properties that appeal to nature lovers and bushwalkers and our peak seasons are at different times of the year.
“So having the two regions operating from the same space makes sense because it the products on offer are complementary.
“It also means that travel agents, interstate and overseas, can refer travellers to the shop to pick up maps, brochures and get additional information on touring options,” Ms Martin said.
