Technical hitch causes itinerary changes for Carnival Miracle
Carnival Cruise Line has announced last minute changes to most Alaskan cruises on the Carnival Miracle from May through late August, due to a "technical issue".
The company said in a statement it has "experienced a technical issue that is only impacting the ship’s maximum cruising speed and all safety and hotel systems are operating normally."
Carnival said the problem has cut the ship’s maximum cruising speed from 21 knots to 18-20 knots.
The vessel will stay in service and continue sailing at reduced speeds until the next scheduled dry-dock service in early 2015.
As a result, Carnival announced itinerary changes to all Alaska cruises except the April 28 and Sept 2 sailings.
On May 6 and May 13 cruises, the port call in Skagway will be dropped and replaced with Sitka.
Then from May 20 through August 26, a scheduled call at Ketchikan will be cancelled with stops in Juneau and Victoria extended.
There will also be minor changes to Hawaii cruises in September, although all original port calls will continue.
The cruise line will offer all passengers a $50 ship credit and a 25% discount on a future cruise, or the option to cancel and receive a full refund.
