Thai Airways postpones flight restart until August

Sunday, 08 Jun, 2020 0

Struggling Thai Airways has pushed back a planned restart of services until at least August.

The flag carrier, which is going through a bankruptcy court-sanctioned restructuring, originally hoped to take off again in July when international flights are expected to restart from Thailand.

Flights will reportedly resume by August 1 with a phased restart.

The first phase will see flights resume to Denpasar, Mumbai, Guangzhou, Hanoi and Hong Kong among others.

The airline filed for bankruptcy protection and wants government assistance in negotiating with creditors.

It also filed separately for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US.

The rehab plan is now underway and the airline will focus on that while flight operations remain grounded.

Under the terms of the Central Bankruptcy Court proceedings, customer refunds are put on hold and the airline expects they can be paid out when the rehab is completed within six months.

Customers may alternatively extend the validity of their tickets or request travel vouchers.
