Thomas Cook takes ‘responsible tourism’ initiative
Thomas Cook’s has begun highlighting hotels with responsible tourism policies in its latest Summersun and Tropical Shores brochures.
The 18 hotels that have been awarded this new logo have demonstrated that they take environmental and social issues seriously.
Criteria includes responsible approaches to laundry, use of hot water, beach cleanliness and the local environment.
Each hotel achieved a perfect score on a checklist, taken from the Supplier Sustainability Handbook and formulated by Thomas Cook in partnership with the Federation of Tour Operators, and also has independent accreditation from a body such as Green Globe, EMAS and ISO 140001.
Tony Hopkins, director of product and publishing, said: “Responsible tourism is increasingly on the agenda in the UK, and we wanted to highlight the fact that this is something that Thomas Cook and its hotels take seriously.”
The hotels include the Olympic Lagoon Resort, Cyprus, Sol Milanos Pinguinos, Menorca, Xanadu Resort Hotel, Turkey, Villa Hotels Holiday Island, Maldives, and the Iberostar Creta Marine, Crete.
