Three IndiGo pilots suspended for cockpit selfies

Thursday, 21 Aug, 2016 0
Three pilots at IndiGo have been temporarily grounded by the Indian safety regulator after snapping selfies in the cockpit mid-flight.

The selfies were reportedly taken more than a year ago but seem to have only recently come to light.

A spokesperson of IndiGo said the three pilots have been taken off flight duty for a week as punishment.

It doesn’t appear to be an isolated incident.

"This is not the only such case. Facebook and other social media profiles are full of pilots beaming in their seats while flying aircraft," a source told the Times of India.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officially warned pilots not to play with personal devices while flying and may issue guidelines to all carriers.

Other regulators including the US Federal Aviation Administration have already banned the personal use of mobile phones and tablets in the cockpit.
