EDITOR’S NOTE
All eyes are turning to the Budget. The Charity Finance
Directors’ Group has urged Chancellor Gordon Brown not to
increase VAT or National Insurance. There have been rumours that
Mr Brown is considering raising VAT to 20%, which could cost
charities up to GBP 100m per year.
http://www.travelmole.com/item/75675

Furthermore, a CBI spokesman has confirmed that the organisation
will seek an emergency cut in VAT on hotel and guest house
accommodation in this year’s Budget in a bid to help the sector
recover from the impact of the September 11 terrorist attacks
and last year’s Foot and Mouth outbreak.

The organisation’s intentions were leaked to The Guardian
earlier this week. It reported that the organisation intended to
seek a one year reduction in VAT from 17.5% to 5%. The CBI has
confirmed that the VAT proposals will feature in the budget
submission that is expected to go to the Chancellor in the next
three weeks.

12. Site of the Week: Britainexpress.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here’s a site that’s a labour of love for the author, David
Ross. As a committed Anglophile, he has set out to make
BritainExpress.com the best place on the net to get information
about Britain.
TravelMole’s reviewer Adrian Mann says: “it’s packed full of
information and background, and there are mountains of links to
other sites. It’s easy to get around and find what you want,
doesn’t indulge in needless technology, is entertainingly
written, and has all the hallmarks of a site that’s been built
and maintained by someone who’s passionate about what they do.
If you are looking to visit Britain and want to do some research
first, or if you just want ideas for great days out, have a look
at Britainexpress.com first. Highly recommended.”
