EDITOR’S NOTE
The Chancellor’s most spectacular Budget announcement – the
abolition of corporation tax for companies that make less than
GBP 10,000 profit – aroused the concern of TravelMole’s sister
site, AccountingWEB, and its TaxZone editor Gary Mackley-Smith.

As well as the abolition announcement, Gordon Brown said the 20p
rate would be reduced to 19p. “This is now the most favourable
corporation tax regime for small businesses in any of the major
economies,” the Chancellor said.

But Mr Mackley-Smith was concerned that the Chancellor was
placing incorporated companies above any other entity with his
latest incentive. “By abolishing corporation tax, there is now
no point in having a small limited liability partnership,” said
Mackley-Smith. “There is also no incentive for small companies
to invest in capital equipment, because they won’t get any
relief,” he added.

For a comprehensive guide to the Budget, could I recommend you
take a look at AccountingWeb’s excellent ‘Budget at-a-glance’:

TravelMole’s reviewer Adrian Mann says: “It can be a little
difficult to navigate, and some of the articles are a bit short
and light on detail, but overall it’s an entertaining and
thought-provoking site.” Read his full review:
