Transport Canada has rolled out a new incident reporting platform for the public to inform authorities of ‘reckless drone use’ in the skies.
People will be able to post a report from their cellphones for Transport Canada officials to ‘gather valuable information that will assist inspectors with investigations,’ the agency said.
The first question people are asked to fill in is: ‘Was the drone flying near an aircraft?’
It also asks for information on where the incident took place, such as near an airport or close to private homes.
It also encourages people to ‘gather evidence such as photos, screenshots, or videos’ and promises to ‘take appropriate action when necessary.’
The reporting tool is in addition to the existing Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System.
Under Transport Canada rules drone no-fly zones include airports and aerodromes, national parks, over the US-Canada border and in heavily populated areas.
