Travel placements reach pandemic high

The number of travel job placements swelled again in September, according to the latest figures from C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment.

The number of new travel job placements reached its highest point in 19 months since travel curbs started to bite at the start of the Covid pandemic.

Numbers have now increased for the last five months in a row.

However, volumes remain down compared to the equivalent pre-pandemic period, with September 2021’s total down by 24% compared to the same month in 2019.

It was also a strong month for new travel job vacancies, with September recording the second highest figure since February 2020.

New travel jobs have now increased in 10 of the past 11 months.

Despite this, September’s number of new roles remained 9% below September 2019.

The month saw a dip in new candidates, with September’s total being 15% below the number recorded in August. Last month’s figure was the lowest since May and was down by 21 per cent from September 2019.

Barbara Kolosinska, Director at C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment, said: "Momentum is truly back in the travel jobs market. Placements are at a 19-month high, and new vacancies are at their second highest level since the pandemic began."

"But despite the positive statistics, there was a fall in new jobseekers in September. Some candidates may potentially have been cautious about searching for a new job last month, fearing that the end of the furlough scheme could create an abundance of new candidates."

"However, early data suggests that the scheme’s closure had minimal impact on September and October’s job patterns."
