Travel scams on the rise again
With vaccinations progressing well and top destinations like Florida and Las Vegas relaxing most social distancing restrictions, travel demand has never been higher since the start of the pandemic.
But with the demand for travel comes an inevitable rise in travel scams. The Better Business Bureau has been issuing warnings about an increase in scammers posing as bona fide airline ticket resellers and travel agents via telemarketing calls.
According to data from text blocker app RoboKiller, the number of automated telemarketing calls purportedly from travel sellers is expected to be up 80% on last year, with as many as 4.9 billion calls in total.
