Tributes for Bella Rangel Callan
Women have led the tributes for one of the first female travel entrepreneurs, Bella Rangel Callan, who died on Thursday.
The former owner of Jebsens Travel was a prominent member of the Association of Women Travel Executives, ABTA and the Institute of Travel and Tourism.
Bella was born in India and lived in Yemen and Hong Kong, where she worked for Jardine Airways, the general sales agent for British Airways, as well as England.
She worked for, then bought, London-based Jebsens Travel, before selling it to Travel Harbour in the early 1980s.
In later years, she set up a fine jewellery business, Bellissima B, although she continued to run a small, independent agency.
Her contribution to the travel industry and support for various charities led to her receiving the AWTE Joan Richardson Award.
Pinpoint Communications managing director Tricia Handley Hughes said Bella left "a memorable legacy", while Brighter Group chief executive Debbie Dowding said she was "a wonderful lady who inspired so many".
Celebrity Cruises managing director UK and Ireland Jo Rzymowska described her as: "A wonderful lady with a real zest for life."
