Trucker-sized kicks on Route 66
America’s carotid artery of travel, Route 66, will be pulsing with pistons this September as the American Truck Historical Society holds its first ‘Historic Highway Convoy’ from September 6-15 on the route from Illinois to California.
Held in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Travel Centers of America (the largest interstate plaza network in the US), the convoy will feature daily truck shows held at T/A or Petro truck stops at nine locations (Morris, IL; Troy, IL; Joplin, MO; Oklahoma City, OK; Amarillo, TX; Albuquerque, NM; Gallup, NM; Kingman, AZ; and Barstow, CA) which travelers may remember as being listed in the famous road trip theme, written in 1946 by Bobby Troup and covered by Depeche Mode and The Rolling Stones.
The last stop will be held in conjunction with the Route 66 Rendezvous, the annual automotive event held at the end of the line in San Bernadino, CA (also in the song).
