TSA sued over transgender strip search request
The mother of a transgender teen is suing the Transportation Security Administration for demanding a strip search. The teen was asked to undergo a strip search at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
A scanner indicated a ‘false positive’ alert in the genital area, as a TSA officer must first press a button indicating whether the passenger is male or female. These ‘false positives’ are a regular occurrence for transgender travelers, the lawsuit says. The daughter’s constitutional rights were violated, the lawsuit claims.
Mother and daughter refused to undergo a strip search and instead booked a rental car to travel home 600 miles.
