Uber pledges to compensate quarantined drivers

Ride hailing firm Uber said it will offer compensation to drivers struck down with coronavirus or placed in a 14-day quarantine.

It has already authorized payouts to five drivers in Mexico and the UK who were under quarantine.

None of the drivers became infected, Uber said.

It will extend the compensation globally.

Quarantined contractors will get compensation for 14 days.

"We are working to implement mechanisms to do this worldwide," the company said.

"We believe this is the right thing to do."

Lyft and food delivery platforms like DoorDash and Instacart also intend to follow suit.
