A flight due to take off from Philadelphia was delayed after two people gained unauthorized access to the plane.
Two passengers with tickets for American Airlines Flight 1655 to Boston managed to board the plane hours before the boarding call, drop off their bags and nonchalantly return to the waiting area via the unlocked jetway without being apprehended.
Investigators are trying to determine how the father and daughter, who spoke no English, were able to access through a supposedly secure door and back again into the terminal.
"Someone went through the door first. We followed him," Francesco Dedos told WCVB Boston through an interpreter
"Two passengers gained unauthorized access to one of our aircrafts earlier this morning. Out of an abundance of caution, we are utilizing a different aircraft for the flight to Boston. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience," American Airlines said in a statement.
The change of aircraft caused a three hour delay.
It is being investigated as an innocent mistake rather than anything more sinister, according to Action News Philadelphia.
American Airlines said it didn’t consider it a security breach as all passengers had already passed through TSA screening.
