Starting next month, United Airlines will trial a video streaming in-flight service for all passengers with iOS devices.
The carrier said it will roll out the service in stages with the intention to have it running on its entire domestic fleet by the year-end.
United stressed it will only be available for iOS-enabled devices such as the iPad.
It will start installing the hardware on Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Boeing 747-400 and some 777-200 aircraft.
The in-flight service requires users to download the United Airlines iOS app or via a browser plug-in for passengers using a laptop.
The United app can also be downloaded aboard the plane free of charge without paying for the existing Wi-Fi plan.
The service is expected to be extended to Android device users at a later date.
