Changing your ticket at United Airlines just got costlier than on any other US airline—so costly that it will often be cheaper to just drop the darn thing in the garbage.
The largest airline in the nation has quietly added $50 to its fee for changing nonrefundable tickets in the US and Canada, bringing the total to $200.
Changing tickets for international itineraries will stay at $250, except for South American destinations, which will be charged $300.
The change makes United’s fee the highest for domestic tickets among the five major airlines.
Southwest doesn’t charge a change fee at all; American, Delta, and US Airways charge $150.
