So what does US Airways do now? Attempt to recapture the number one market share on the US east coast, according to an employee update.
The memo said Philadelphia would remain its core network, while Pittsburgh will be downsized from a hub operation. Charlotte, which will remain a traditional hub center, will have more domestic and international service.
The carrier also set a goal to double bookings through its website, from 10% to 20%.
Other initiatives include a simplified fare structure, increased automation through greater reliance on airport kiosks and improved aircraft utilization.
US Airways described the proposed changes as radical.
