US issues travel warning for Singapore
The U.S. State Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have advised Americans not to travel to Singapore, due to a ‘very high level of Covid-19.’
The CDC has issued a Level 4 travel health notice for Singapore.
The Lion City is experiencing a rare surge in cases and deaths with 73,000 new cases in just a month which has doubled the number since the start of the pandemic.
It comes just weeks after the government changed strategy to live with Covid rather than trying to obliterate it from the city-state completely.
It recorded 179 deaths in the past month which is more than half of all deaths since the start of Covid.
"If you must travel to Singapore, make sure you are fully vaccinated before travel Because of the current situation in Singapore, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading Covid-19 variants," the CDC advisory says.
Singapore has one of the highest vaccination rates with 82% fully-jabbed.
US authorities issued the guidance as Singapore is opening ‘vaccinated ravel lanes’ for arrivals from the US and several other countries in Europe and Asia.
This will allow them to skip quarantine if they arrive on designated VTL flights.
The US will open its borders for fully vaccinated international travelers. in early November.
