US rules could delay flights, agency warns
Travel management firm FCm Travel Solutions has warned business travellers they could face flight delays following the introduction of new US security laws.
US immigration now require all passengers to provide their country of residence and where they are staying on their first night in the States.
The rules came into force earlier this month.
FCm said while business travellers will be aware of the rules, leisure passengers may not.
“As with all new legislation it takes a while for the general public to understand the rules,” said operations director Paul East. “If the check-in staff have to manually type in traveller’s first US address it will take 90 seconds per passenger. If you multiple that by about 200 then you are potentially looking at a delayed flight.”
He said the problem could be more acute in the run up to Easter, traditionally a busy time.
