Virgin Australia has strengthened its codesharing pact with Italy’s national carrier, Alitalia.
An additional 11 Italian domestic routes from Rome will be added to the partnership, including services from Rome to Venice, Naples, Turin, Florence and Genoa.
This is in addition to existing routes between Abu Dhabi and Rome Fiumicino, and Abu Dhabi and Milan Malpensa.
"Virgin Australia customers now have access to 13 codeshare destinations across Italy from our Abu Dhabi gateway, providing more opportunities to travel seamlessly, earn Velocity Points and Status Credits, and enjoy lounge access," said Virgin Australia general manager of alliances, Phil Squires.
"Our expanded codeshare relationship with Alitalia makes it easier for Australians to do business or visit friends and family in Italy."
Virgin’s Velocity Frequent Flyer members get full reciprocal benefits on Alitalia’s network including lounge access, priority service and increased baggage allowances where eligible.
Alitalia customers will also gain codeshare benefits and through ticketing on Virgin services via Sydney to Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, Ballina, Coffs Harbour, Hobart, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.
