W and other luxury hotels setting sights on South Florida

A rash of five-star hotels are due to open in the near future in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, area.

They include:

  • A new, 166-room, $135 million St. Regis Resort with an ocean-view gourmet restaurant due to open next year.

  • The $220 million W Fort Lauderdale Hotel, set to open late next year.

  • The Trump International Hotel & Tower, a 24-story building designed by famed architect Michael Graves due to open in 2007.

Other recently opened hotels in the area include a $30 million Hollywood Beach Marriott; the Atlantic, a member of Starwood’s Luxury Collection; the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and the Pelican Beach Resort.
