W Hotels make China debut

Starwood yesterday announced the opening of W Guangzhou, the first W Hotel in mainland China.

The W Guangzhou is the 44th hotel in Starwood’s luxury W brand. The plan is to more than double the brand’s current footprint in Asia over the next five years, from nine hotels today to nearly 20.

The hotel has 317 guest rooms and suites, and a style designed to "reflect Guangzhou’s unique energy and personality as an ancient city in the midst of a modern economic explosion." It sports a unique black glass exterior designed by renowned architect Rocco Yim and a 19-meter-tall "Luminous Water Wall" with a liquid mosaic of light, lines, and color.

For corporate gatherings and special events, there are more than 2,000 square feet of meeting and event space. Verve, a private multi-function room, boasts a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows that let in natural daylight and offer easy access to outdoor private gardens.

There are two nightlife venues and three signature restaurants, a spa and fitness center, a heated indoor pool, a 24-hour business center, and the W brand’s Whatever/Whenever® service philosophy, offering guests whatever they want, whenever they want it.

Guestrooms feature 46-inch LED HD TVs, state-of-the-art surround sound systems, high-speed Wi-Fi, and MP3 players.
