Ryanair is in more trouble over its advertising after the UK’s advertisement watchdog criticised the carrier for misleading customers. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has reportedly upheld a complaint by the mother of a girl who was stranded at France’s Lyons airport for a night. According to a report in The Times, the girl was unable to transfer to St Etienne, from where the flight departed. Ryanair argued that customers could not have been misled by the advert because St Etienne was written more prominently than Lyons, and further suggested that Lyons was actually describing the area in which St Etienne was located. However, the ASA insisted that Ryanair was wrong and remove the word Lyons from the advertisement. As reported, Ryanair has previously been criticised for misleading passengers over which airport they are flying to – for example, the Consumers’ Association last year criticised the carrier for advertising flights to Copenhagen, when their planes actually landed in Malmo, Sweden.
