Web and live TV at 36,000 feet
Singapore Airlines is to offer high speed internet access and live TV on long haul flights.
In-flight broadband access is to be installed on London-Singapore flights in the first quarter of 2005, giving passengers access to corporate networks so they can send and receive emails and surf the net.
The airline will charge $29.95 for unlimited internet access on flights of more than six hours, $19.95 for flights of between three and six hours and $14.95 for journeys of less than three hours. Alternatively, rates for half an hour cost $9.95 plus $0.25 per minute thereafter.
SIA plans to further add to its onboard entertainment by providing live international TV, initially showing four international news channels from next summer. Sports are due to be added at a later date.
The airline’s product and service senior vice-president Yap Kim Wah said: “The possibilities for our customers are truly endless. Passengers can chose to work, play or surf the internet and watch live TV. This is over and above the 400 entertainment options we already feature on our flights.”
