Webjet accepting Bitcoin payment
Online travel site Webjet has become one of the first Australian travel companies to adopt Bitcoin payments.
Teaming up with Sydney-based Bitcoin merchant BitPOS, the payment method will be available through its WebJet Exclusives site.
BitPOS founder Jason Williams says the company retains only 1% commission.
"For BitPOS, it’s a big win in Australia for us. Webjet is the biggest name we’ve got and I can’t tell you how proud I am to make that happen," he said.
CEO of Webjet Exclusives, Paul Ryan said the Bitcoin payment gateway will be trialled with the aim of extending it across its other products, including flights, hotels and travel insurance.
"It’s an innovative addition to the existing payment options available on site. We are dedicated to providing our customers with a wide range of choice and flexibility in how they can purchase their travel deals," Ryan said.
"In this particular case, we are excited to extend this payment option to the community of bitcoin users that have relatively limited choice in terms of online retailers in the Australian market."
