Indian online travel firm Yatra is venturing into Uber territory.
It rolled out a cab booking service this week and aims to generate 5% of all revenues from this segment by December.
Yatra has partnered with long distance and local cab firms such as GetmeCab, Carzonrent and Clear Car Rental which have a combined fleet of about 5,000 vegicles.
"Cabs including inter as well as intra city are a big part of what constitutes travel. It was a gap and we felt that with a number of different providers being there both for intra-city as well as for inter-city it was a good opportunity to put the platform together," said Sharat Dhall, president of Yatra.
It is also in talks to bring in more companies, such as point-to-oint transport providers, car pooling services and self-drive rental firms.
"We did this mainly to complement all other services that we do. From revenue, if we can get 5% from this segment by year end, we will be happy," said Manish Amin, co-founder and chief information officer at Yatra.
The company currently offers 55,000 hotels and homestays on its website, along with travel packages and domestic ticketing.
An offline cab service was trialled last year to hotel customers, and was successful enough for Yatra to now launch the service nationwide on its mobile app.
