New airline startup Air Kerala gets first regulatory green light
New India airline startup Air Kerala announced it has been granted an initial NOC from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Backed by Dubai based Zett Fly Aviation Private Limited, it will be branded as Air Kerala.
Once it receives a full Air Operator’s Certificate it will deploy ATR 72-600 aircraft on short and medium length domestic routes.
“We aim to launch a domestic carrier in Kerala in the first phase and later expand into an international airline serving the Gulf-Kerala sector,” Afi Ahmed, Chairman of Zett Fly, said.
Kochi will become be the airline’s hub and headquarters.
It will launch initially with three ATR 72-60 aircraft.
“We plan to connect Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities with Tier 1 and metro airports,” Ahmed added.
The budding new airline still has to acquire aircraft and needs to pass all regulatory requirements before launching.
Dubai–based Ahmed is also the Chairman of travel company Smart Travels.
